This is the story of a secret war. A war within-a-war, fought by antagonists who used spies, traitors, assassins, and political intrigue as weapons in what they considered a crusade for the soul of Europe. One faction fought to defend personal liberty and freedom from state oppression. The opponents were equally dedicated to uphold Christian values and traditional national culture and mores. There were no uniforms or medals in this war. It was not always clear who was the enemy, nor who was in the right. It was fought by people in several lands, without knowledge of each other; but the pivotal conflict began on a summer's day in England in 1939. The story unfolds with a richly painted background of life in those far off days, and follows the fortunes of two very opposite characters; a counter intelligence officer and a society lady drawn into the maelstrom.
